SeniorAdvisor.com’s Best of 2018 Senior Living Winners

Residents and families choose the best of the best in senior living based on their own experiencesBest of 2018 Senior Living

For the fifth year in a row, SeniorAdvisor.com is proud to announce the top senior living providers in North America, based on the ratings and reviews of the people who know them best – the residents and families who have earned their trust. The awards, which are based on SeniorAdvisor.com online ratings and reviews, recognize the top 1% of senior living communities and agencies across United States and Canada.

“These communities have earned the stamp of approval from the people most qualified to rate them – residents and families,” said Ben Opps, General Manager of SeniorAdvisor.com. “We celebrate their achievements and are honored to make this information available to other families who are looking for the right senior living community for their loved one.”

Over 1,600 assisted living, in-home care and other senior housing providers across the United States and Canada were recognized this year. More than half of the winners offer more than one type of care to seniors. Assisted living was the most represented care type, followed by memory care and independent living.

The top three U.S. cities this year for the most winners were San Antonio and Houston, with a two-way tie between Chicago and Tucson. TexasCalifornia, FloridaIllinois and Ohio were the top states.

These winners also have staying power – nearly half of them have received a Best of Senior Living designation before.

To qualify for a SeniorAdvisor.com Best of 2018 Award, communities must have maintained an average overall rating of at least 4.5 stars and have received four or more new reviews in 2017.

I would like to make a comment regarding an assisted living facility in New York State. The facility name is Walden Place and is located in Cortland, NY. My father resided at this facility from July 12, 2018 until he fell and broke his hip on November 7, 2018. The day he moved into Walden Place I met with the director and signed the residential agreement. Upon leaving Walden Place for medical reasons we were told that we needed to give a thirty day notice when vacating a room. We also were told that we would be responsible for continued payment through December 9, 2018. Upon review of the residential agreement we discovered that the agreement does not state that a thirty day notice is required nor does it state that an individual is responsible to continue to pay for a vacated room for thirty days after the room has been vacated. My father has now passed away and my mother has received a bill requesting additional payment through December 9, 2018.
This policy seems unfair in my opinion and should certainly be stated clearly in the initial agreement which it was not.
Unfortunately this experience has impacted my opinion of this facility.
