St. Patrick’s Day Crafts for SeniorsSt. Patricks Day Crafts for Seniors

While leprechauns and four-leaf clovers may not officially have much to do with the Irish holiday of St. Patrick’s Day, for many people the day becomes an opportunity to celebrate any and all aspects of Irish culture. That presents some fun options for St. Patrick’s Day crafts you can do with the residents of your senior living facility. Here are some ideas to try this year.

DIY Pot of Gold1. St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold

Everyone knows the superstition that a leprechaun will lead you to a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. With this craft, you can go ahead and create your own luck by making the pot of gold yourself and filling it with some kind of yummy candy wrapped in gold foil.

Leprechaun Hat Flower Holder2. Leprechaun Hat Flower Holder

Some fresh flowers will always brighten the assisted living facility up a bit. To celebrate the season and add some brightness at the same time, work on creating some of these leprechaun hat crafts that will hold your flowers and add some extra seasonal green to the space at the same time.

Four Leaf Clover Wreath3. Four Leaf Clover Wreath

If you have any shrubs around that need to be trimmed, you can turn the clippings into a lovely wreath to decorate the doors of the home. This craft only works if you can manage to bring in enough clippings for everyone to participate, but if you talk to the people who tend the home’s lawn, they may be able to help.

Paper shamrocks4. Decorative Paper Shamrocks

These paper shamrocks are simple, lovely, and can be used as decoration all around the facility. Your residents can make a whole slough of them and help you figure out the best spots to place them to add a little St. Patty’s day character to the area.

Handmade St. Patricks Day Card5. Homemade St. Patrick’s Day Cards

Being in assisted living can sometimes make seniors feel distant from their loved ones. Holidays present the perfect opportunity to get in touch and make sure connections with the people you love are renewed. Homemade St. Patrick’s day cards are fun to create, will make the recipient feel loved, and possibly invite a response that will make the resident’s day.

Shamrock Boutonniere6. Shamrock Boutonnieres

Everyone’s supposed to wear green for the big day. These boutonnieres make it easy. If you make enough for everyone in the facility, you can hand them out in the morning and help your residents avoid the teasing and pinches that come with forgetting their green on St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day is a fun excuse for everyone to be a little more mischievous and playful than usual. These crafts can help you get everyone in the assisted living home in the right mood to celebrate the day.
