Senior Discounts in Dallas

Written by Casey Kelly-Barton

Dallas has something for everyone, and that something often comes cheaper for seniors. Call it traditional Texan respect for elders or call it good “bidness”–either way, it makes exploring the city easier on your wallet. Here are 10 popular Dallas attractions that are happy to give seniors a deal:

1. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Pick a pleasant day to stroll through this 66-acre sanctuary and take the time to stop and smell the roses, appreciate the red maples, and admire the magnolias. With 19 named gardens and seasonal events year round, the Dallas Arboretum has been named one of America’s best botanical gardens.

2. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The museum that commemorates one of the country’s darkest days is one of the city’s best-regarded places to visit. Along with artifacts pertaining to John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the former Texas Schoolbook Depository gives visitors an overview of Kennedy’s life, time in office, and legacy.

3. Dallas Museum of Art

The DMA is one of Big D’s most popular institutions, and it offers the best “discount” of all—general admission is always free. The DMA’s permanent collection contains works from ancient times to the present day, including well-known pieces by Mondrian and Van Gogh. The DMA Café also hosts free live jazz sessions every Thursday evening.

4. Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Housed in a bold modern building that’s considered an exhibit in its own right, the Perot Museum’s 11 permanent exhibit halls give visitors a closer look at our world. Dinosaurs, minerals and gems, wild weather, and the latest engineering marvels are just some of what’s on offer here.

5. Dallas World Aquarium

This splashy showcase in the heart of town wows visitors with sea life, birds, and mammals from around the world. The Mundo Maya exhibit is 8 stories of Yucatan wildlife, while penguins, geckos, and chameleons make themselves at home in the South Africa habitat.

6. Nasher Sculpture Center

This internationally renowned museum is filled to the brim, indoors and out, with 3-dimensional works by Rodin, Picasso, Lichtenstein, and Stella. You’ll also find works on paper and canvas by Jasper Johns and Claes Oldenburg.

7. Big D Fun Tours

This trolley sightseeing outfit offers city tours that take you through the arts district, past Reunion Tower, and more. You can also retrace history on the JFK tour.

8. Trinity River Audubon Center

This birdwatcher’s paradise at the edge of Dallas’ 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest is the place to go for picnics, hikes and communing with nature, including bees, butterflies, native lizards and frogs, and dozens of resident and migratory bird species.

9. Meadows Museum of Art

Steeped in Spanish art, the Meadows Museum at SMU is home to paintings and prints from Renaissance Spain, 20th century sculpture, and works by Texan artists.

10. Frontiers of Flight Museum

This Smithsonian-affiliated museum at Love Field has something for every aeronautics nut, from the Apollo 7 spacecraft to a complete retired Boeing 737.
