Luxury Retirement Homes in San Diego

Luxury Retirement Homes in San Diego

It’s hard to top the daily perks that come with living in San Diego: beautiful weather, plenty of beaches, scenic hills, and a thriving arts and culture scene. But the luxury senior living communities that call San Diego home do their best to pamper residents and add some extra shine to the “golden years.” There are upscale retirement and assisted living facilities in San Diego to suit most lifestyle preferences, from the bustle of downtown to the serenity of the hills. Here are a few:

Downtown San Diego senior living luxury

Merrill Gardens at Bankers Hill offers independent living and assisted living apartments in the heart of the Bankers Hill downtown area, close to Balboa Park and many museums, restaurants, and performance spaces. The building itself has a parking garage, a rooftop deck with an ocean view, an on-site fitness center, and a dining room. Residents can enjoy restaurant-style meal service anytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The Active Living program provides residents with customized fitness options designed to enhance and maintain balance, strength, and flexibility.

Senior communities close to the beach

For seniors who prefer to be away from the busyness of the city and closer to the shore, The Meridian at Lake San Marcos offers upscale living north of the city itself. With a location near Lake San Marcos and just a few miles from the beach, there’s plenty of natural beauty to enjoy. The Meridian also offers the convenience of a care continuum for residents, from resort-inspired independent living to customized assisted living and a memory care “community within a community” that provides specialized services and a safe environment. Meridian residents enjoy nutritionally sound meals, daily housekeeping service, licensed-nurse wellness checks, Wi-Fi, and the use of the game room, pool, clubhouse, and fitness center.

Luxury retirement living in the hills of San Diego

The Remington Club in Rancho Bernardo, in the hills east of town, is another luxury option for seniors. The Remington Club is a continuum-of-care community that offers independent and assisted living along with skilled nursing for residents with medical issues and short-term and respite care options for those who need them.

Residents at the Remington Club have access to the ornately decorated community library, pool and waterfall, and dining room, which offers traditional and vegetarian cuisine. There are frequent fitness classes and regular field trips to ball games, museums, and other San Diego attractions.
The surrounding Rancho Bernardo community offers several golf courses along with eateries, shops, and businesses that are close enough to walk to from the Remington Club. Three miles from the Remington Club, Bernardo Winery offers tours, tastings, shopping, and special events.

I will celebrate my 97th birthday 3/10/17 and still drive. My wife(90) and I own our home free & clear. We were interested in moving into La costa Glen facilities but they require the purchase of a facility plus a monthly fee. Casa de La Campania only requires a monthly fee. Both have a medical facility on their grounds.
We would like to remain in our home.
I receive my medical care at the VA in San Diego but I also have Medicare and Tricare for Life. My wife has Medicare and Tricare for Life.
I receive a monthly Brigadier General retirement pay and a VA disability pay
What would the monthly cost of care be staying at home versus a facility in San Diego?
