A Look at Worcester

Worcester is a forgotten city of sorts. It's not exactly a small town - it is home to some 181,000 residents and is the second largest city in New England - yet it tends to get dwarfed by Boston, partially because Beantown is about 40 miles west of the city. Plus, a lot of people that live outside the region have a tendency to mispronounce its name, calling it WORCE-ster instead of its popular pronunciation of WOO-ster. However, even if you don't know how to pronounce the name, Worcester is still worthy of your attention.

Even though Worcester does stand in the shadow of Boston, it is able to stand out on its own, in part, because of its growing reputation for being a mighty regional economic power. While the city was traditional built on the strength of the manufacturing industry, it has transformed into a decidedly more 21st century economic landscape; one that is built on a foundation of industries pertaining to technology and biotechnology. It is also a centralized New England hub of sorts. Not only is the city close to Boston, it is also within 40 miles of other key regional cities such as Springfield and Providence, Rhode Island. Its geographic positioning allows it to carry the nickname "The Heart of the Commonwealth."

And although Worcester has done a great job of progressing as a forward-thinking city, it should be noted that the city still has plenty of room to celebrate its past. This is a good thing, seeing as how it is one of the country's older cities - its settlement dates back to 1722. Its impressive roots are well preserved throughout the city, courtesy of several points of interest stretch back to its pre-colonial days.

Like a lot of Massachusetts cities that fall within the large to mid-sized category, Worcester is split up into several distinctive neighborhoods. Each of these city sub-sections come complete with a unique sense of style and character. This enables the city to feel somewhat bigger than its borders would indicate.

Worcester Home Care at a Glance

Home care, which is also known as home health care or in-home care, is more or less defined as care that is administered to a senior by a professional caregiver within the confines of a golden ager's own residence. There are more or less two roles that the caregiver needs to take on in this situation. In the first role, the caregiver is responsible for doling out aid to the senior in relation to various activities of daily living. These activities include, taking a bath, getting dressed, toileting, walking, or eating. Secondly, the caregiver is assigned with helping out in various functions that aren't physical in nature, but are nonetheless needed in order to keep the concept of living within a residence afloat. Some of these functions include housecleaning, picking up groceries, or cooking, or preparing medications. These two roles ultimately combine to enable golden agers a means to retain a specific measure of independent living, which is something that may not be as easy to grasp within a senior living community.
