Of those caregivers who say their health has declined, over half\u00a0report that declining health has made it harder to support their loved one.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November is<\/span><strong> National Family\u00a0Caregivers Month<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a month dedicated to devoted caregivers. the theme for 2015 is<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cRespite: Care for Caregivers.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>What is meant by <\/i><\/b><strong><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senioradvisor.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/what-is-respite-care\/\">respite<\/a><\/i><\/strong><b><i>?<\/i><\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As stated by<\/span><\/i><i> <\/i><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/caregiveraction.org\/national-family-caregivers-month\"><i>Caregiver Action Network (CAN)<\/i><\/a><\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cRespite \u2013 the chance to take a breather, the opportunity to re-energize \u2013 is as important as any other item on your caregiver\u2019s to-do list. People think of respite as a luxury, but considering caregivers\u2019 increased risk for health issues from chronic stress, those risks are a lot costlier than some time away to recharge.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, caregivers need to take care of themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How can caregivers find respite? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By taking\u00a0time to focus on <\/span><b><i>their<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> health and happiness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are four ways to encourage more respite in your life:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>1. Nourish Your Body<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mealtime can be a great time to sit down, eat and just \u201cbe.\u201d Take time out to concentrate on your food, breathe in and out and calmly put aside any worries or anxiety as you eat. Remember \u201cyou are what you eat,\u201d so<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ensure you are made up of real, nourishing and energy-boosting foods, not processed, fast or junk foods. And, take a load off and check out <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">these <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senioradvisor.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/healthy-food-delivery-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">healthy food delivery services<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2. Spend Time with Others<\/h2>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make it a priority, whether it\u2019s weekly, bimonthly or monthly, to schedule dedicated time with someone special in your life (a spouse, friend, or sibling). Eat at a restaurant, visit a museum, see a show, and just enjoy the company and lending ears of others to keep your spirits high.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<h2>3. Incorporate Relaxation Practices<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focus on doing something nice for yourself that is centered on relaxing and de-stressing.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend a yoga class, get a massage, read a book, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senioradvisor.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/meditation-for-caregivers-what-why-and-how-to-get-started\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">meditate<\/a><\/strong>, etc. Find a regular practice, schedule time on your calendar as if it is a doctor\u2019s appointment and don\u2019t be late!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>4. Engage in Physical Activity<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage in some form of regular physical activity to release stress and clear your mind as exercise is good for both the body and soul. Take a workout class, go for a jog, walk around the block &#8211; just get your body moving and burn off any anxiety, stress or negative energy. Again, schedule this activity and stay committed to it.
