coverage.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility Requirements for Medicaid<\/h2>\n<p>There are two different requirements that you have to meet to be eligible for Medicaid. \u00a0States don&#8217;t have to cover every eligibility group so you will have to make sure that you check for what your state covers. \u00a0For the most part though, you must meet <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/longtermcare.gov\/medicare-medicaid-more\/medicaid\/medicaid-eligibility\/general-medicaid-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\">general requirements<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/longtermcare.gov\/medicare-medicaid-more\/medicaid\/medicaid-eligibility\/financial-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\">financial requirements<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><em>General Requirements<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>You may be eligible for Medicaid if you are getting benefits from the Supplemental Security Income program or if you&#8217;re disabled and living with an income below the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/glossary\/federal-poverty-level-FPL\/\" target=\"_blank\">federal poverty level<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0You can also be eligible for Medicaid if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are over 65<\/li>\n<li>You have a permanent disability<\/li>\n<li>You are blind<\/li>\n<li>You are a pregnant woman<\/li>\n<li>You are a child or are the parent or caretaker of a child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A US citizen or meet certain immigration laws<\/li>\n<li>A resident of the state you are applying in<\/li>\n<li>Have a Social Security Number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><em>Financial Requirements<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>To be eligible for Medicaid, you must also meet certain financial requirements. \u00a0You must have limited income and assets to be considered. \u00a0When you apply for Medicaid, they will look at all of your income and determine whether you meet the financial income level. \u00a0Your income can come from a few different sources, which\u00a0can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Salaries<\/li>\n<li>Pensions<\/li>\n<li>Veterans benefits<\/li>\n<li>Wages<\/li>\n<li>Stocks and bonds<\/li>\n<li>Regular payments from Social href=\"http:\/\/www.medicare.gov\/your-medicare-costs\/help-paying-costs\/medicaid\/medicaid.html\" target=\"_blank\">Medicaid spend down rules<\/a><\/strong>, you can subtract your medical expenses from your total income to become financially eligible. \u00a0These rules will vary from state to state, and you can call your local Medicaid office to learn more.<\/p>\n<h2>The Application Process<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/longtermcare.gov\/medicare-medicaid-more\/medicaid\/applying-for-medicaid\/\" target=\"_blank\">Applying for Medicaid<\/a><\/strong> is very simple, and there are a few different ways that you can apply. \u00a0The two main things that you will need to do is fill out an application form and provide the proper documentation to prove you meet the general and financial requirements. \u00a0If you own your home, the state may also ask for the fair market value as well as a current tax bill, a real estate appraisal, or copies of your mortgage.<\/p>\n<p>Each state has local Medicaid offices where you can pick up and file your application. \u00a0They also sometimes have other locations throughout the state to make sure that they can serve everybody. \u00a0If you can\u2019t make it to the Medicaid office to apply, you can appoint someone to apply for you or call the local office and apply over the phone. \u00a0It can take Medicaid up to 45 days to process your application, and up to 90 days if there is a disability determination. \u00a0As long as you have all the proper documents ready when needed, the process should go smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>Medicaid can provide important medical services when you need them most. \u00a0It can seem like a very complicated process that will take a long time, but that doesn\u2019t have to
