1. The End of the Alarm Clock<\/span><\/h2>\n

Many of us are looking forward to the day that we can throw our alarm clocks away. Being retired gives you the flexibility of waking up on your terms and on your timeline. Get up at 5 am or 8:30 in the morning or stay in bed. It\u2019s totally up to you. No guilt attached. No rushing. Just bliss. Naturally you do need to wake up sometime. But it\u2019s no longer to join the daily grind. You no longer have to wake up to that same nagging sound anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Fight the Morning Commute? Nah!<\/span><\/h2>\n

Furthermore, <\/span>you<\/span> don\u2019t have to get up for <\/span>the morning commute, and while you may already be awake anyway, you can <\/span>plan <\/span>your<\/span> use of the ca<\/span>r to avoid peak traffic times. You<\/span> <\/span>can stay out of the rat race. You <\/span>can do <\/span>your grocery shopping after 9:00am <\/span>when most people are<\/span> already<\/span> at the office. <\/span>You<\/span> can catch the first showing of a movie for the early bird price<\/span> at the local theater and not get caught<\/span> in evening traffic. <\/span><\/p>\n

Occasionally, you may <\/span>forget<\/span> about the hour and find yourself mired in the 5:00pm <\/span>traffic. I<\/span>nstead of fussing and fuming, you can <\/span>spend <\/span>your<\/span> time in gridlock feeling sorry for the poor saps <\/span>who<\/span> have to do this every day. Boy, <\/span>aren\u2019t you<\/span> fortunate!<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Discounts!<\/span><\/h2>\n

Being over the hill is great because lots of<\/span> places give senior discounts. You can<\/span> ride the subway, bus or trolley for a lower price by flashing <\/span>your senior ID. If you<\/span> miss that early bird showing at the movie theater, there is still the senior <\/span>discount wh<\/span>ich<\/span> is almost as good a price. You<\/span> can order off the 55+ menu in many restaurants and get a good meal cheaper. Ross gives a discount on Tuesdays and most thrift store<\/span>s<\/span> (Goodwill, Salvation Army, <\/span>Amvets<\/span>, etc.) give seniors <\/span>t<\/span>en percent off every day. When you stay at a hotel, you can <\/span>always ask if there is a senior discount. <\/span>You\u2019ll be<\/span> pleasantly surprised. In fact,<\/span> make it your mission to demand that senior and retired discount! You\u2019ve earned it! <\/span><\/p>\n

4. Self-Confidence<\/span><\/h2>\n

You <\/span>no longer care about<\/span> what people th<\/span>ink or what they think of you. You have courage that you never had as a young person. You don\u2019t have to put up with anyone\u2019s nonsense<\/span>.<\/span> If you<\/span> think someone is cheating <\/span>you<\/span>, <\/span>you can speak up – your<\/span> younger self<\/span> probably wouldn\u2019t have done that. <\/span>You can let people know your thoughts on issues without being afraid of how they will take you.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can now go after the things that you wanted to go after. <\/span>You don\u2019t have to give any one a reason for why you picked up that art class or why you spent $2,000 on outdoor gardening equipment. You\u2019re retired. You\u2019re supposed to do awesome things with your time. And, then again, you can also do absolutely nothing with your time and still be completely respected for it.
